BALLROOM DANCES
With its origins in the early 20th Century, ballroom dancing is today enjoyed as a social or competitive activity. The dances that fall into this category vary depending on the school of dance and location. The more classic ballroom dances are elegant partner connections with a slightly more formal tone.
Here are some of the Standard Ballroom you will learn some at Blueheel Dance Studio
WALTZ
Coming from the 17th century Europe, and being the first dance in which a man held a woman close to his body, this is the most well-known of the ballroom dances.
The ¾ time signature, makes the Waltz a unique type of dance.
If you like the light tuneful melodies of Strauss or Andre Rieu, you will love the waltz.
FOXTROT
Born in America in the early 1900’s, the foxtrot is danced to jazz or Big Band music. The speed will vary according to the music.
TANGO
Though with the same origins in Argentina, Ballroom Tango has a 2/4 times signature and a more open frame than Argentine Tango. It’s a distinctively expressive, sensual and dramatic dance. It does take two to tango!
